Tīwhanawhana 20 Years On

Event Date

A celebration of community through takatāpui, Māori, indigenous, LGBTI & the rainbow achievements of Tīwhanawhana

In 2001 the Takatāpui and LGBT community in Wellington came together to form a kapa haka rōpu as part of Team Wellington for the 2002 Gay Games in Sydney Australia. That group named itself Tīwhanawhana.

Tīwhanawhana today is the ongoing legacy of that kaupapa which, through political and cultural leadership, led to the present mission of building community, telling our stories and, leaving a legacy.

Join the celebrations as Tīwhanawhana shares 2 decades of inspiration through kōrero, photographs, memorabilia.
