Cheap and Choice - the Thistle Hall $100 Art Sale
Thistle Hall Community Venue is very pleased to
announce their annual $100 art sale. We are calling for artists to submit
their works NOW to be sold on Friday 7 December at our annual $100 Art
Sale.
This is the third $100 Art Sale Thistle Hall has organised,
the first one in 2005, which was a fundraiser for our new gallery lighting
raised over $3000 dollars, last years which was fundraising to re-instate
the gallery window onto Arthur Street raised over $4000.
This year
we are continuing the 50/50 split with the participating artists, and
any money raised for Thistle Hall goes into building a modular mobile
stage for the hall and gallery. We are hoping to continue the fundraising
trend and raise over $5000 this year.
Things will run slightly differently
this year. We will be open for viewing from 12-4 on Friday the 7th,
then the sale starts from 6pm. The art sale is cash and carry, you pay
and you can take it away, which is am amazing sight to be seen, walls
filled with local works emptying in front of your eyes.
Any work that is unsold can be tendered for using silent bidding forms,
we will also open on Saturday 8 December so that any art unsold at our
sale can be open for silent bidding. The bids will be tallied and people
contacted to collect their works on Monday 10 December.

Weekly Waiata
Thistle Hall are very proud to announce that they
will be running a season of weekly waiata classes for the community
from October 1st. Weekly waiata has been something we’ve been wanting
to do for a while, with so many benefits to all members of the community.
Communal singing brings us together as a community and some people believe
it even has transcendental properties. At Thistle Hall Weekly Waiata
is a sign of our commitment to The Treaty of Waitangi and the tangata
whenua of Poneke. Our weekly sessions start on Monday October 1st and
we are encouraging people from all parts of the community to come along
and have a go. Classes run from 6-7pm but doors open at 5.30 if you’d
like to come and wind down after work. The classes are available thanks
to the generous funding and support from The Wellington City Council
Grants. We ask that participants give a koha/donation in support of
the kaupapa of the project, this will go towards the costs incurred
by Thistle Hall. We look forward to seeing and hearing you at Weekly
Waiata at thistle Hall.
For more info on Weekly Waiata at Thistle Hall please contact Lily Chalmers
on 384 3088 or office@thistlehall.org.nz.

Magdalena Aotearoa presents: ROSA CASADO
|
Spanish theatre artist Rosa Casado will give workshops and performances in Wellington, from June 24 to 28. An independent creator and performer based in Madrid, Rosa Casado's work centres on rewriting reality by de-contextualising ordinary daily acts to explore new ways of "thinking" and "doing". She is particularly concerned with issues around tourism, migration and art's capacity for transformation.
"Paradise 2: the incessant sound of a falling tree" is a 30-minute solo performance which Rosa will present in Wellington, 24-25 June. In it, Rosa describes her own holiday in Mali, juxtaposed with the story of a man's migration from Senegal to Spain. The performance features a large chocolate island, and will be followed by a discussion with the artist.
"Paradise 2: the incessant sound of a falling tree" 8pm, Saturday
24 & Sunday 25 June Wellington Performing Arts Centre $15/$10
Local artists have the opportunity to participate in a two-day workshop
with Rosa, "To Create in a Time and a Place." The workshop is directed
at anyone wanting to investigate the capacity of art and action to speak
about reality and to promote new ways of thinking. Places are limited
to 10 per workshop, so book early to secure your place. Workshop: "To Create in a
Time and a Place" 24-25 June: 2-day workshop (Tararua Tramping Club)
27-28 June: 2-day workshop (Thistle Hall) $150 waged or $75 unwaged Further information
